Prime Healthcare hospitals have once again topped the list of the safest hospitals in the nation, according to Healthgrades, a national patient safety ratings organization. Sixteen hospitals from the award-winning healthcare organization received the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Awards™, recognizing hospitals with the fewest safety-related events among Medicare patients. In addition to these awards, Prime Healthcare’s hospitals received more than 150 accolades, including “America’s 100 Best by Specialty,” Specialty Excellence Awards, and Five-Star Awards in 2025.

“Prime Healthcare hospitals prioritize the well-being of their patients and staff, setting a high standard for patient safety nationwide,” said Debra Gradick, MD FACEP, senior physician consultant at Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for providing consistently exceptional care while preventing serious injuries, giving patients their best chance of a seamless recovery.” Prime Healthcare has had more Patient Safety recipients in California over the last two years (2024-25) than any other health system. Of the 16 hospitals receiving the honor this year, 13 performed among the top five percent of all hospitals nationally, with three in the top 10 percent. Additionally, four hospitals—Centinela Hospital Medical Center, La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, Paradise Valley Hospital, and Sherman Oaks Hospital—marked their 12th consecutive year as Patient Safety Excellence Award™ recipients.

Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates for approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top-performing hospitals for patient safety. Their analysis revealed significant performance gaps, emphasizing the importance of choosing hospitals with top safety ratings. From 2021-2023, 173,280 preventable safety events occurred among Medicare patients in U.S. hospitals, with four indicators accounting for nearly 76% of these incidents. Patients at hospitals receiving the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award had a significantly lower chance of experiencing these safety issues compared to those at non-recipient hospitals.
